Husband-and-wife team Andres and Alison Avayú have built up a loyal clientele at their “little restaurant” on Commercial Boulevard. The pair created a gourmet Italian menu that speaks to a more authentic Italian dining experience.
“When somebody opens up an Italian restaurant you know off the bat the entire menu that’s going to be there,” chef Andres says. “You know you’re going to have your parmesans, Bologneses, piccatas, marsalas, lasagnas, spaghetti and so forth. So I wanted to stray away and do true Italian cooking, as in a homemade meal, and stick away from the American Italian norm.”
Word of mouth has garnered a following who appreciate the care the Avayús take in preparing their dishes. Menu favorites include the 14-oz bone-in grilled veal chop with wild mushrooms and white truffle porcini risotto and the one-bone Chianti-braised short rib with creamy sundried tomato polenta.
“We offer a unique dining experience that we don’t think that you can find anywhere else in Fort Lauderdale,” says Alison, who handles business development. “We have a 30-foot dining room, delightful background music and the ambiance that is the perfect setting for either a romantic dinner, a night out with family or even a business meeting.”
